I choked and almost cried when I saw this picture in Eden’s website.

This boy here looked soo cheerful and happy despite being handicapped. I may not know what happened to him, or what disease he was suffering from, but what I understand is that there are a lot of other handicapped people who are alive, and that there’s something we can do to make their lives easier and happier.
So this year, a group of us, Yvonne, John Ling, Charmaine, Jess and I will be group-blogathoning to raise funds for Eden Handicap Service Centre. The service centre, based in Penang, is an independent non-profit organisation, and is the only handicap centre in Penang that gives FREE facilities (others charge at least RM450 per person per month). It was started to help the disabled to come to terms with their disabilities, to engage them in fellowship with other disabled and able-bodied friends, and to provide adequate training to place them in suitable jobs.
So what are WE going to do?
The four of us will attempt to blog non-stop for 24 hours by posting an entry every 30 minutes in the annual Blogathon.
And what can YOU do?
You may pledge an hourly amount and the total will be calculated and sent to your e-mail when the blogathon ends, OR you may pledge a lump sum for our efforts!
At the end of the event, an e-mail will be sent to you with your total pledged sponsorship and the details where the money should be sent to. You will send the money directly to Eden to ensure legitimacy and you may choose to donate by writing a cheque in favour of “Eden Handicap Service Centre Berhad”, or by postal order, or you may walk-in to Eden personally. We do NOT handle the money at all.
Act NOW!
Click here to sign up and sponsor Eden. But because Malaysian charities do NOT accept online donations, after signing up, just key in the amount you would like to pledge, for example, type “20″ if you would like to pledge RM 20 and in the currency unit drop down menu, select USD (don’t worry, you will only need to donate the amount you entered in Malaysian Ringgit).
** Alternatively, you may donate directly to Eden **
Wei Khang may no longer be around, but there are many others who NEED your help. It does NOT matter how much you sponsor, as long as it comes from the heart.
Remember, what goes around, comes around..
End note:
Yvonne has chosen to raise funds for a Malaysian organization because she believes that “charity begins at home”. And if you have not done much to the society recently, please consider sponsoring Eden. No amount is too small. Seriously.
Let’s join hands and together we make the lives of the disabled easier and happier ![]()
