Turtle Times website

How often do you get your picture on the front page of a website?

OK, OK, I know I have been missing for a while. How are YOU doing? How did your weekend go?

Remember a couple of days ago when I announced that two of the turtle pictures that I submitted to were voted as finalists? Well, after the second round of voting to decide the 12 best pictures, I am delighted to announce that one of my pictures was voted as one of the 12 “winners” and the other one, well, appeared on the calendar cover!

The triplets

The Triplets did not win the contest but I guess it must have attracted the attention of a lot of people to be given the honour of gracing the cover of the calendar.

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty was selected as one of the 12 calendar turtles, and is featured on February 2008 :D

YAY YAY!

Click here to purchase a copy of the turtle calendar from Turtle Times @ CafePress. Each calendar costs USD 16.99 (excluding shipping).

P/S: I am looking for somebody (preferably from the US) who would help me purchase a copy of the calendar and mail it to me (because I don’t have a credit card, but I do have PayPal). I will definitely pay you back! Anybody?

I submitted three pictures for a Photo Contest at Turtle Times and two of them have been voted as finalists! I was so excited when I saw my pictures in the list of finalists because I had never expected them to be voted in among many others  Pictures that win the Photo Contest will be published in the 2008 Turtle Times Calendar!

1. The stacked up river terrapins that I named “The Triplets”

Stacked-up river terrapins

The bottom-most terrapin was 2 years old when this picture was taken (I think it was last year, I’m not too sure). The middle one was one year old, and the top one was only a few months old.

2. A sleepy hatchling which I nicknamed “Sleeping Beauty”

9-month-old river terrapin

I’ve explained in an earlier post why this hatchling looked so sleepy :)

While this is easily categorized as a popularity contest, I would say that this is a little different from other contests that I have read about or participated in. For one, only members of the Turtle Times forum may vote, and each member can only vote once. But what makes me take my hat off is that new members aren’t allowed to vote. While some people may think that this is rather restricting, I think that this is a very good measure that ensures that nobody registers “just to vote”.

If you are a Turtle Times forum member, please vote for my pictures! But if you aren’t a member, you may still check out the other finalists here (the voting links have been removed)!

Update: The verdict is out!
