Have you read about Jessica Gaude, the seven-year-old girl who weighs a whooping 222kg??! She eats 10,000 calories a day, and if you don’t know how much that is, imagine gobbling lots of Coca-Colas, 15 hamburgers with fries and several kilograms of chocolate. Not surprisingly, what she eats in one day, some children eat in half a year.

The sad thing is that when she last visited the doctor four years ago, she weighed (only) 110kg. Unfortunately, she can no longer run and instead of walking she drags herself on the floor. Under such bodily weight her bones have already become distorted. And another scarier thing is that Jessica’s mother, Carolyn, gives her daughter whatever she wants.

Gosh.

Pudding shakeSo, if you think your child is eating too much and may become obese, you may want to try some of the diet foods available from Bariatric Choice. If you haven’t already guessed it, bariatric refers to “the branch of medicine dealing with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity, both pharmacological and surgical”.

Protein diet barsBariatric Choice is the leading online source of the same high-quality bariatric protein diet foods (e.g. hot drinks, protein bars, puddings, etc.) and bariatric vitamins (e.g. vitamin C, calcium, iron, etc.) used by bariatric physicians, bariatric surgeons and professionals — at affordable prices too, e.g. a box of pudding or protein diet bars or diet hot drinks (7 servings) costs USD 9.99 and a bag of cheddar mix (1 serving) costs USD 1.89. And these prices aren’t too much to save a child’s life, is it? :)

The Eye Digest Here comes the second questionnaire :) The first questionnaire was aimed at determining whether or not your vision affects the way you live your life. You may want to read about it here.

Now, this second online eye test is capable of “roughly” determining whether you have what is called “dry eyes”.

Dry eye is a disorder of the tear film due to tear deficiency or excessive tear evaporation which causes damage to the exposed eye surface and is associated with symptoms of ocular discomfort. These symptoms include eye fatigue, discomfort, redness, itching, dryness, irritation, crusting of lids, scratchiness, excessive tearing, discharge, blurry vision, pain, light sensitivity, blinking abnormalities, and foreign body sensation.

- Source: The Eye Digest on Dry Eye Symptoms

McMonnies & Ho questionnaire is often used in clinical studies of dry eyes. There are ONLY 14 questions (and will take you less than 10 minutes to complete) that will give you a score from 0 to 45. Scores above 14.5 are consistent with dry eye diagnosis and have a 87% sensitivity and specificity for dry eye diagnosis. The closer your score is to 45, the more certain is the dry eye diagnosis and the more severe is your dry eye disease.

My score

I’ve got a score of 10.0 — thank God! :D

Come on, girls and boys, let’s compare scores! :) Take the dry eye test now. It could save your life. Well, at least your vision!

Psst…

I read from here that the Duggars are pregnant again. No big deal? Yeah, except this time, it’s their 17th child.

Question of the day: Is your vision affecting the way you live?

The Eye Digest If you’re concerned with whether the health of your vision affects the way you live your life, perhaps it’s time for an eye check-up which will give you some peace of mind. But if you’re too lazy busy to visit an ophthalmologist, you can always take the online eye test.

The online eye test can help you determine your Vision Score. You will be presented with a series of questions — 39 in all — which will take approximately 20 minutes, depending on how quickly you read the questions :) Lower scores means greater vision disability.

Now, test results from 4,077 patients showed that those who have advanced macular degeneration will have a mean score of 74. And patients with advanced cataract will have a mean score between 86 and 88 depending on the type of cataract. Based on this information, it seems reasonable to assume that individuals who score less than 90 should seek an eye exam.

I took the test this afternoon, and VOILA! My overall score is 96.74, which is very good, considering the fact that I pop my contacts for long hours, and I sometimes sleep with them.. ARGH..

Click to take the test (opens in a new window) — then tell me how you did, OK?? Cis, like comparing exam marks!
