Yuin Yin bought some new clothes back from Russia not too long ago (some with price tags still attached) and these new clothes are being put up for auction to raise funds for Yvonne’s medical treatments. As usual, 100% of all funds raised from the auctions will be channeled towards Yvonne’s medical fund for future use.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with these two very sweet and cheerful Malaysian bloggers, Yuin Yin is a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with a parotid gland tumour in 2007, and had since gone through therapies and treatments.

Yvonne, on the other hand, is diagnosed with a genetic disease called Neurofibromatosis Type II (NF2). The disease causes benign tumors to grow in her body all her life, and as such, she would need constant medical attention and at times, surgeries. Yvonne started raising funds for her medical treatments in 2006 by selling T-shirts, cap, earrings, etc. (visit her online store). Yvonne is also the author of I’m Not Sick, Just A Bit Unwell which can also be bought from her online store.

Now, in conjunction with Valentine’s Day, the auction will be held from 30th January to 7th February on YvonneFoong.com. Two pieces of clothings will be put up for bidding every three days. Each winning bidder is advised to pay as soon as he/she wins the bid so that the item can be shipped in time as a Valentine’s Day gift to their choice of recipient. Payment may be made by online bank transfer. Buyers will bear the postage fee.

If you haven’t gotten anything for your other half this  Valentine’s Day  , head on over to Yvonne’s blog and start bidding. All for a good cause :vodka:

Help Holly -- Only A Dollar!Holly Alonzo is a 21-year-old wife and mother who has a genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2). When she was diagnosed, the doctors found a tumor wrapped around her brain stem. That tumor had to be removed, and it was unknown whether she would survive the risky surgery. She did, but she woke up completely blind.

NF2 is once again interfering with her life, and is now threatening her hearing. She has already lost the hearing in one ear due to the bilateral tumors on her hearing nerves. The tumor on her good ear is now growing and something has to be done soon.

Holly is now hoping to get an Auditory Brainstem Implant (ABI). The implant will provide her with some auditory stimulation so that will not have to risk being completely blind AND deaf. Unfortunately, the procedures to get the implant are only done at select hospitals, and these hospitals do not accept her insurance (Medicaid). The estimated cost of the surgery is USD 60,000.

Now, Yvonne and I are launching this “Help Holly — Only A Dollar” campaign to raise funds for Holly so that she could have the ABI — so that she doesn’t have to risk losing her sight AND her hearing. We are only asking for a dollar, yes, ONE US DOLLAR. Because we believe that if everybody who learns about this “Help Holly — Only A Dollar” campaign donates at least a dollar, Holly would be able to get her ABI done soon :D

HELP HOLLY — ONLY A DOLLAR (click to donate)

Help Holly -- Only A Dollar!

And here’s what you can do:

  1. Blog about Holly Alonzo and her condition and help spread the news as much as you can.
  2. Place a “Save Holly” badge on your blog (those badges don’t look professional because I designed it, and I’m not a professional designer, LOL).
  3. Donate to Holly. Remember we are only asking for a dollar?
  4. Get your blogging network friends to blog about and donate to Holly too. The faster this campaign spreads like wildfire, the sooner Holly will be able to get the ABI.

A  HUGE thank you  goes to those who have helped spread the news:

A week ago, I asked (in a poll) how often you reduce, reuse and recycle. The results of the week-long poll show that two-thirds (67%) of my readers reduce, reuse and recycle as much as they possibly can, whereas 25% only practice it whenever they are in the mood to do so. However, 8% of my readers say that they do not reduce, reuse and recycle their trash.

Results of the poll

While there are many reasons why people do not, or put very little effort in reducing, reusing and recycling their trash, I believe that one of them is that they do not find the incentive in doing it. Some people find it very convenient to just trash everything instead of sorting them out in their homes. And some people think that their recycling efforts will not do much difference to the world if other people aren’t doing their part.

And well, some people do not recycle their trash because they do not know how to do so!

Now, how do you reuse or recycle:

What about:

If you’re looking for ideas on how you can reuse or recycle a whole bunch of things from your office or your home, How Can I Recycle This? is the perfect place for you. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a new item will be posted and readers are welcome to share their ideas and suggestions on how to reuse or recycle that particular item. You have an item but it has yet to be mentioned on the website? Pop them an email and suggest it!

Or if you have recently reused or recycled something in an interesting, clever or creative way and want to show it off, (also) pop them an email, tell them what you did and send a photo if you can, and it will be added to the “Clever Ideas” category.

Brilliant, isn’t it?

Thanks to Amanda @ The Good Rabbit for the tips!
