pelf-ism is contagious

This is always the most difficult part. To describe myself. I did it in 100 short sentences about what I like and dislike in my previous blog and I thought maybe I should do something different.

So I will now attempt to describe myself from A to Z.

I am the AUTHOR of this blog. Obviously.

I am a BIOLOGIST. I run experiments to determine the biology of the animals under my care. More about my project here and here.

I am a CURATOR. I take care of a species of critically-endangered river terrapins. If no conservation actions are being taken, these terrapins will become extinct in the next decade.

I am DRIVER. But hey, anybody who drives is a driver, no? As in, anybody who writes is a writer, but not anybody who draws is a drawer *argh*

I am an EDITOR. I have friends who sent me their theses for editing before submitting to their respective Supervisors.

I am a FINANCIAL PLANNER. I plan my own finances. Naah.. That was a lie. I do not usually plan my finances but I keep track of them. In fact I write little short notes by the side of each transaction in my little bank passbook. Yeah, that is how I do it :))

I am a GARBAGE COLLECTOR. Nobody else in the house I am sharing with takes the rubbish out and none of them would bother to take the rubbish bags to the designated area though it is just 10 minutes away from our house, by foot, or 2 minutes, by bike.

I am a HAIRDRESSER. I dress my own hair. That is also why sometimes my hair looks like it had just been hit by tornado and J would go, “Whoa! Whatever happened to your hair?!” And that is also why I am having this same hairstyle since I-forgot-when..

I am an ILLUSTRATOR, not! I cannot draw. In fact, I used to attend drawing classes, once a week, for four times each month. But that was during a time when drawing classes cost RM30 per month. I particularly enjoyed those outdoor trips where we got to draw whatever we liked at certain locations, rather than drawing a bowl of chicken eggs or a fish.

When I was young, I wanted to be a JOURNALIST. There was a time when I was contemplating whether I should take up a second degree, in Journalism, or a Master’s degree. It is very obvious which one I chose, no? But I am still an aspiring journalist. I dream that one day I would have the chance to cover events of certain degree of difficulty.

I am a KILLER. I kill ants, spiders, cockroaches and any other multi-legged insects who mercilessly fall into my way.

I was a LECTURER for a couple of classes when I covered up for my Supervisor who was away. But I realize I did not quite like lecturing. I don’t know.. Was it because the students did not give me any reactions or feedback? Was it because I was going too fast and they could not follow me, hence the lack of questions from the students? Was I loud enough? Did I look confident enough as a lecturer?

I am always impressed with MAGICIANS. Mum used to tell me that these magicians are not allowed to tell the tricks behind each “trick” otherwise they would lose the ability to perform. Is that true?!

One of my aunts used to suggest that I take up Nursing and be a NURSE. I didn’t understand why, but she said nursing is a professional course. So..? I still don’t understand it..

I used to be afraid of my ORTHODONTIST because she was a very strict lady. Whenever she asked if you wanted to go ahead with the procedure, she would expect you to answer her firmly without having to consult your parents. And if you did, she would ask whether it was you or your parents who wanted the treatment.

I am a PHOTOGRAPHER. I like to take pictures of pretty sceneries, pretty people, innocent faces and colourful events. In fact, I take pictures of whatever catches my attention. Go visit my Flickr account!

When I was younger, I used to give myself English names that were easier to pronounce because my teachers in school could NOT pronounce my name without irritating me. And one of the names I have ever used was QUEENIE.

I am a part-time REPORTER with an English local daily. And if you know me well enough, you would know which local daily. But if you do NOT know me that much, fret not, there are only a couple of English dailies - that is, if you are interested in guessing

I am a SCIENTIST. At least I hope I would be one. But I realized I have the tendency to fall back into the Admin or Management line, not that I was from there anyway..

I am a TRANSLATOR. I have translated a couple of books in a series, originally written in English by a Japanese.

I am always amazed at how URBAN PLANNERS work. And how highways are built.

I have never thought that I would be a VETERINARIAN because I was (and still is) very afraid of animals. But ever since I started working with the terrapins, I have cured treated quite a number of sick terrapins and I must say that I enjoy the satisfaction of seeing them recover

I am a WRITER. Enough said..

I used to be a XYLOPHONIST when I was in school because I was obviously one of those kids who had some basic knowledge of what a pitch and treble cleft and b flat were.

I am not a YODELER. I cannot sing that well. I cannot hold my breath for that long.

I am a ZOOLOGIST because I am taking care of and studying a kind of animals.
