A few days ago, I removed quite a lot of “friends” from my Facebook account because I realized that we were not really friends in real life. Yes, I may know you from a friend of a friend, but if I have never talked to you in person, I don’t think we are “friends”. Seriously, what kind of friends are we if we don’t talk? LOL.

I like Facebook. I really do. I think Facebook provides a great way to keeping in touch with friends whom I have not met in a long time. I think it also provides an easy way for me to just say “Hi, how have you been?” or “Happy Birthday” without worrying that my message is too short. Plus, it also provides a decent way to keep myself updated on the whereabouts of my friends — from kindergarten to university ones, blogger friends and friends I have made over the years :)

So yeah, if I have removed you from my Facebook, please don’t take it too personally. It doesn’t mean that I don’t like you. It just means that we need to get to know each other before we can call ourselves “friends” :)

Now, the other thing is with Twitter. I have also just un-followed about 60% of the people in my list because I found it “too much” to go through the whole list of tweets everyday. Like I was telling a friend the other day, I’d hate to miss the tweets that I don’t want to miss, but I can’t bear to go through all the tweets every morning, especially when 95% of the tweets aren’t relevant to me. Plus, it doesn’t help when I live on the other side of the globe from a lot of my Twitter friends.

I don’t have a product to market. I don’t regard myself as a “news-provider” either because I don’t sit in front of the computer the whole day, and I am not living in a place where exciting things happen, LOL. In other words, I don’t have first-hand news to share with my followers. So, I use Twitter to “communicate” with friends instead. When a friend tweets, I will think of a way to respond to the tweet because I feel that it is a great way to keep in touch with a friend, especially when I’m too busy to write an email.

So yeah, how do you use Facebook and Twitter? And if you’re following more than 100 people on Twitter, how do you actually keep tab of what’s happening to who?
