Phew.. It was only a little more than 2 weeks since I last wrote a decent blog post, but it felt like forever. It felt like I have abandoned my blog for so so long. But a lot has happened in the last 2 weeks.

I flew to KL and then went shopping at 1U with my Mum and sister before driving back to Ipoh for Chinese New year. My CNY preparations were like that of yesteryears, except this year, it was easier to get new clothes, perhaps somebody finally realized that not everybody was born with great-looking figures and that there were also thin people who wanted to buy new clothes for the new year, LOL. But apart from that, I also went grocery-shopping with Mum at the wet market, I helped Mum cook a huge pot of vegetarian curry, and Mum fried vegetarian rice vermicelli (beehoon) enough to feed about 25 people.

On the first day of CNY, all of us went to a temple in Tapah. There were a lot of people at the temple it was almost impossible not to bump into another person. And the smoke from the joss-sticks made Grandma so uncomfortable that we had to leave soon after.

On the third day of CNY, we (Mum, cutie pie sister and her bf, and me) went on a 3D2N tour to Penang. We stayed at the Red Rock Hotel, which by the way, was nice and cozy. We visited the Kek Lok Si temple, the Burmese temple, the Thai temple and the Guan Yin temple, which was the oldest temple in Penang. We had lots of Penang laksa, chee cheong fun, Penang char kuay teow, cendol, ice kacang. The fun-nest thing about the trip to Penang was that the whole trip cost less than RM150 per person, including hotel accommodation for 2 nights, parking fees, food, toll fares and petrol! Wasn’t that a steal? :)

On the day I was scheduled to fly back to KT, I visited an aunt in Puchong, and my sister and I ended up napping at my aunt’s. Who goes visiting during CNY and ends up taking a nap at the host’s? LOL.

Anyway, how did YOU celebrate CNY?

I spend a week in Ipoh, basically lazying around and playing cards. It was almost same with prev years but this time we went to temple to offer prayers on the CNY’s eve night. Oh ya, I baked cupcakes too along with frying ngaku and seaweed crackers. Happy Chinese New Year!

As you know I am not Chinese though I have some great Chinese friends. I did not do anything special, but am glad that you have had a great time.

Welcome back to the blog post world!

Incidentally, I did not realize that it has been more than two weeks since your last post. Nice to see that you will be posting more now.

  4. If you come on the 5th day then you will witness the awesome CNY street party held at the Heritage Square. =)

CNY this year is about eating and eating but I’m still slim as always. LOL.

3D2N @ Penang for RM150? were you on the MAS Golden Holidays package??

  6. littlebro says:

Glad to see that you enjoyed yourself during CNY, dai kah cher.

Btw RM150 for your Penang trip is really unbelievable! I wonder how did the budget breakdown goes, hmm..

  7. Evelyn says:

They should hire you for the Penang episode of Destinasi Bajet (8TV). RM150 for 3D2N is phenomenal!

  8. Grace says:

I spent my CNY in Sandakan. Had an open house on the first day. Attended a reunion cocktail session on the second night…with a whole bunch of my schoolmates, it’s been 10 years since we graduated from secondary school. Great fun!

Visited more houses, talked to more friends. Ate a lot. :)

I don’t celebrate it, but I used to when I was at school. About 1/3 of the school were boarders from Hong Kong, China and Japan and on Chinese New Year we were guaranteed the Chinese menu at lunch, which is the only one that was nice :)
