Pink for OctoberIt’s THAT time of the year now! If you haven’t gone pink, now’s the best time to do it :D

If your friends will laugh at you for turning your blog pink despite being a boy/gentleman, tell them that it’s for a wonderful cause — a cause that everybody who has a Mum, a grandmother, a sister, a girlfriend, a wife, a friend, a colleague or a neighbour should be concerned about.

For your information, I will be running a super-fun a la photo hunt contest on the official Pink for October website throughout the month. It is a very simple and flexible contest, and is aimed at getting more people involved in the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as well as learning something new each day :D

Also, check out our list of sponsors who have so generously offered some pretty and unique prizes for the contest. Without our sponsors, there wouldn’t be a contest.

That said, I will not be writing about breast cancer here, but if you’d like to read some of the stuff that I have written in the last 2 years, here they are:

October 2006

October 2007

I’ve gone pink. Have you? It’s easy, I swear :secret:

I think it’s great that you’ve gone pink … I’m a two time survivor and a breast cancer blogger and let me tell you, each bit of pink you see this month helps to raise awareness.

    Kudos!

Thanks, Karen, for the compliments. I’ve always had a great deal of respect for cancer survivors.

    Hats off to you! :vodka:

Yes, I shall go pink this month. You can check in the next couple of days. This is too important an issue not to do everything possible to create more awareness.

Somewhat of an ignorant question here but is October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month respected world-wide, for example in the UK?

I ask because my wife recently had a malignant melanoma removed, fortunately it was very thin but we both still worry, and her mum died of ovarian cancer a few years ago.

My wife takes part in something called Race for Life in the UK. It’s not specifically about breast cancer but a charitable event nonetheless.

    Thanks.

Hi Scott, I think October is America’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it is being observed world-wide, in my opinion. Check out the sites that are participating in P4O.

But does that really matter? I think all that matters is that we are creating awareness on this deadly disease, and at the same time honouring those who have, in some ways, been affected by the disease. This is also the time to show your support to those who are fighting the disease, and the time to celebrate with the survivors.

And, thanks for informing me about the link to P4O. I’ve fixed it.

    Hi Pelf

I decided to turn my blog pink and used one of the logos from http://pinkforoctober.org

I did shrink it down a tad but informed the designer. Hopefully I won’t get into trouble lol

Making a transparent png work in IE 6 was a nightmare!

Anyway, cheers for the write up on this and hopefully more people will get involved.

Great to see so much support for breast cancer awareness. Almost every person has at one time had to face having somebody they know deal with breast cancer. Continue the great work.

This sure will make a statement as the changes in color schemes of certain sites will be easily noticeable, and this will be quickly tracked back to the movement of the month.
