Can you believe I’m too busy to blog?
I was just telling my sister the other day that I have only published 4 posts in October because I am too busy to write a decent post.
If you haven’t noticed it, I am involved with Pink for October. I was “recruited” to try to get more people involved in the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I thought contests would be one of the easiest ways to get people involved in something. So I started sourcing for sponsors and then I had to think about the kind of contests to hold. Seven of the eight a la photo hunt contests are closed, but all four of the “bonus contests” will be open until Oct 30th. So if you have some time, and would like to try your luck at winning any of these prizes, do check these contests out:
- Share your story and win a prize
- Design and win
- Breast cancer is …
- What have you done in conjunction with Pink for October?
I have also been very busy with my new job, which I love to bits. I’ve got a very fancy position — Research and Public Outreach Officer — that I think scares people. But basically, my job description covers the seas and the mountains, as they say. From tracking river terrapins in the Setiu River to handling the Turtle/Nest Adoptions that come in to assisting my Advisor in organizing our Annual TRRG Reunion on Nov 5th @ Aquaria KLCC, to promoting our Say “No” to turtle eggs campaign, to designing a database form using Microsoft Access (I have only done this once before).
I don’t know.. I hope I will have more time to blog after October, but my friend David @ PlanetThoughts is planning some kind of say no to plastic bag campaign, which I am also very interested in, but we shall see.
So what have YOU been doing in October? Did you go Pink for October? Did you participate in any of the P4O contests? Have you signed our Say “No” to turtle eggs petition? And if you’re a former TRRG volunteer, will you be attending our Annual Reunion?
What is poverty to you?
POVERTY is one of those words that we often associate with some South African countries. It brings an image of some skinny-starving children in some villages on a faraway desert. It reminds us to finish our food and vegetables however much we dislike them, because somewhere far away, somebody’s going to bed hungry.
POVERTY is one of those words that really does not mean anything to us because we are such fortunate people.
But that shouldn’t stop us from doing something. If you’re looking for some ideas on what YOU, as an individual can do to stop poverty, here’s a list of 88 ways to do something about poverty. Go on and pick something from the list and do it. Or you could think about something new and add it onto the list.
Whatever it is, just do something. Because by taking action, some kids will have some food tonight before they go to bed.
Lots of contests, but are you in?
I am running a series of simple-to-play and fun contests on the official Pink for October website, but why aren’t YOU participating? We are giving away a lot of attractive prizes throughout the month, plus, it’s for a good cause! Did you know that by participating, you are actually reaching out to your readers and increasing awareness on this deadly but preventable disease? :D
So let me tell you more about the contests that I’m running:
Every Monday and Thursday, I will announce a word, and you are supposed to find or take a picture that best describes that word and blog about it. After that, you should drop by and leave me a comment and link on the post. It’s that easy! On Oct 31st, I will randomly pick a lucky winner from all those who leave me a comment. Which means that the more you play, the higher your chances are of winning something :D
On top of that, there are also those month-long contests. You could either share a breast cancer related true story, or you could design a Pink for October button/banner/badge, and and on Oct 31st, I will randomly pick a winner.
Seriously, MY CONTESTS are definitely easier than those that ask you to write a 5000-word essay about your first love, or why you like to watch rainbows, no?
Come and join us! :vodka:
