Three “If”s that would have made my life somewhat different today (from Simon Talks):

IF I had not applied for the Asian Scholarship Program and insisted with the Director that I WANTED very badly to be considered a potential candidate, I wouldn’t have had a chance to go to the United States. I must say that the things that I have seen and learned while in the US have greatly changed the way I look at things. And more importantly, at life.

IF I had not taken up Marine Biology in a far-away-and-unheard-of-university some years ago, I would not have met my boyfriend, J (cheesy, I know, just bear with me la). He has taught me that it takes a great deal of trust and faith to love somebody, and my girlfriends would not agree more with him.

IF I had not taken up a Master’s degree, I wouldn’t be able to appreciate research in its purest form. The experience I have gained throughout the duration of my Master’s research has taught me heaps about it.

Our turn

What are the “if”s that would have made your life somewhat different today?

  1. simon says:

very interesting! studying overseas is definitely a very life changing experience. But only 3 ‘ifs’?

  2. Jim Gaudet says:

If I didn’t get into that car accident, I wouldn’t be loving my life in Costa Rica right now.

In the US I needed to work 50+ hours a week just to get by, so much work in fact that I fell asleep driving home and ended up in the hospital for 3 months. In those 3 months I was reborn and had made decisions that would change my life forever, and now I am living them.

  3. kristarella says:

I always think it’s good to look back on things with a positive light.

If I hadn’t lived with my Gran for a year, I probably never would have appreciated her as much as I do.

If I hadn’t done science at uni I probably wouldn’t have hung out with and married my husband (even though I didn’t meet him at uni and he went to a different uni).

If I hadn’t done honours… I’d be a lot happier? I guess for some things you need a little distance and time for the pain to fade before you see the benefits.

  4. Nicole Price says:

What if I had not started blogging? I would not have come across such interesting people, cultures and information, even about the USA!

  5. silveraven says:

ooo, i see a silhouette of myself…somewhere behind you guys. wahahaha. i miss the terrapins! the baby ones especially.

if i had not been blogging, i won’t have come into contact with you, and i most probably won’t have come to this *ahem* “far-away-and-unheard-of-university” to take up marine biology and be passionate abt it.

lalala~ i’m still in a love-hate relationship with my fyp though. *grr!*

  6. Yvonne Foong says:

So many what ifs. There were times I wished certain things did not happen. But I have also grown with them. You are always grateful of things around you. i respect that, Pelf.

  7. soufulow says:

Your blogpost is inspiring – i can’t resist to leave my comment.

If i hadn’t met the accident I had 11 years ago i wouldn’t be “me” right now. In fact, I thank god for giving me the painful incident so that i have the chance to re-think about my attitude, my families, and my life. it’s uneasy but it helps me grow 100 times faster.

    I wouldn’t be “me” right now if…

    …i hadn’t read on Anthony Robbin’s books.

…i hadn’t meet the other three buddies in University.

…i hadn’t meet my friend who thought me about Internet marketing.
