I was at Books-A-Million at Chattanooga less than a week ago, and I was surprised to find that there were so many kinds of board games in the market these days! We now have Dog-opoly, Bamaopoly, Dawg-opoly, Volopoly and God knows how many other types of weird-sounding board games!

Now, I grew up with only a few types of board games and Monopoly was once my favourite. I mean, it is still my favourite board game now, but I remember how desperately I wanted a set of Monopoly when I was young that I actually saved my own pocket money to buy it (I seldom wanted something so badly)!

And if I were born a decade or so later, I wonder how much money I’d need to save to get all the board games that I wanted! :D

if you come to our Board Games meets every Thursday you’ll see just how many types of board games there are! Monopoly/Scrabble/etc look very amateur by comparison.

If you were to buy Volopoly and Dawg-opoly, you might be disappointed. They’re identical to Monopoly, except that the names of the properties reflect famous places on the respective campuses (UT and UGA). I own Gatoropoly after my alma mater (UF).

Americans are easily amused by such board games. They buy them, then they sit and gather dust because they are so rarely played LOL

Haha, I’ve never heard of those ones!

I’m no expert on board games, but I do love them. The ones we own at home are Scrabble, Guess Who, Battleship, Backgammon, Risk, Settlers of Catan, Trivial Pursuit… I think that might be it. I also love Craniumm, Pictionary, Taboo… Board games are cool!

  5. Wow, searching through twitter sure takes me to new places.

There is a ridiculous amount of board games out there. I own about 160 and that’s a very small collection compared to some people I know. If you want to be shocked by the variety of games out there, check out http://www.boardgamegeek.com.

Also, our site does video reviews of board games on a show called Obsessed Board Gamers. Just head over to http://www.obsessedwithgaming.com and you’ll see.

    Have fun!

  9. Other than those ***-poly board games? What else did you find? What’s the difference between board games in US and board games in Malaysia?
