Last night, I took a few good night scenes of the Kuala Lumpur (from a distance) at the Observation Tower at Langat Hill. The view there was gorgeous. I was there when the sun sets.

Anyway, I am sharing two pictures from the tower. Please give me some advice because I do not know what mode to use when I am taking photographs at night. No flash? Or Night mode (with flash)?

Ready? OK.. scroll down :)

Thank you for your advice (in advance), I will be back with more amazing pictures. Tadaaa~

    Nice pictures, Pelfy!

For me, it doesn’t matter what mode to use. What matters most is the result of the picture taken. And you’ve did a good job!

    Say…I notice you’re turning your sis’s blog to a ‘I-love-photography’ blog :secret:

  2. Nina says:

I love the pictures. There are very great and its look very breathtaking.

  3. Franklin says:

I no very little about photography, so I cannot answer your question. However, both of these pictures look very nice :)

I think I prefer the way the first one captured more lights, but the second one looks truer – blue, rather than orange sky.

I think if you can it’s good to take a couple (as you have done here) then you can maybe merge the lights of the first with the sky of the second, or tweak the colours of the first one to keep the bright lights, but not be so orange. Unless you like the orange… remember it’s ok to post process, the camera doesn’t always see what you do (the way our brains interpret light is a little more comlex!).

  5. Plastron says:

I like the second one. The first one looks like KL is having a bush fire… :P

Nice job pelfy~! What setting did you use for the second photo? I’ve been trying to get a shot like that but have been unsuccessful so far. All I get when I take night shots are the “bush fire” type…

Littlebro: Thanks for the compliments. Remember to hire me as your photographer when you get married, OK? Regarding the price… we should discuss this when time comes (= hohoh

Nina: Thanks and remember to come back for more pictures (=

Franklin: It’s OK if you’re unable to advice. The most important thing is that you like the shots (=

Kristarella: Thank you for your suggestions. I will try to work it out one of these days (=

    Plastron: Below are the details:
    Exposure time: 3.2 sec
    Aperture: 5.6
    ISO 400
    No flash
    Focal length: 70mm

The first one is awesome for a dreamy affect, but the second is more clear and realistic. I like both though!

  8. Zhu says:

    Wow, beautiful, both of them!

I love cities at night… definitely a different atmosphere. Great shots!

    Hey my 2 cents;

    looks like u’r using a DSLR? If u r here’s what I’d do.

    Use a steady tripod
    Set to Aperture Priority
    ISO 100
    F22 or maximum aperture
    No Flash
Let the camera set the shutter speed
Use 2 sec delay to minimize camera shake / Remote shutter release

    Alternatively

    Use a tripod
    Set to landscape scene
    No Flash
Use 2 sec delay to minimize camera shake / Remote shutter release
