Do you know about a web site called Kiva.org? And the whole micro lending movement? Philanthropy and investing rolled into one ... when a good friend of mine needs to borrow a little bit of money, in the offline world we call "real life," it's not a problem; and vice-versa. No interest is involved, no collateral ... just a dignified event between two friends. That people are using this concept not to lend somebody money to eat out or buy a thing they want, but to expand their business and hire somebody ... to actually fight poverty ... is a triumph of the human spirit. Unfortunately, our War on the Environment is very effective.
