If you haven’t already noticed it, I have recently activated a plugin called What Would Seth Godin Do? Well, basically, what the plugin does is that it uses the presence of cookies to treat returning visitors differently than newbies.

Thinking Like Seth Godin

Traditionally, you will see the following welcome message the first time you visit:

“I will not be as ridiculous as to ask you to subscribe to my RSS feed since this is your first time here. Please grab a cup of coffee, make yourself at home and feel free to browse the archives :) Thanks for dropping by!”

And the next time you drop by, the message will no longer be visible.

However, if you’re a FireFox user and you “Clear Private Data” each time you close your browser window, you clear your cookies as well. Hence the next time you drop by, you will see the above message once again. To avoid seeing the welcome message everyday, you can exclude your cookies from being cleared by going to Tools > Options > Privacy > Private Data > Settings > Uncheck the COOKIES checkbox > Click OK.

Clear Private Data

So, my dear readers/visitors, how many of you clear your private data each time you close your browser window?

  1. Renee says:

Me, I’m afraid! I was wondering why I got that message every time, so thanks for clearing this up!

  2. goldfries says:

I just set mine to clear Cache only. :)

After 3-4 days, as I tend to save too many user name/passwords in it. The forms are filled up with so many things and its an eye sore (especially when it’s typo).

No, I don’t delete them. Will not disturb them as long as they do not disturb me. Wahpiang! :)
