According to ‘An Advertising Glossary’, an advertisement is defined as a paid public announcement appearing in the media.

In Malaysia, there is a code of ethics for the advertising agencies to follow, but I will not be highlighting it here because just in case my translations (from Bahasa Melayu to English) are inaccurate, my sister will be in trouble (since this blog belongs to her). Anyway, if you wish to know more about the codes, you may drop by at Pelfy’s Journey of Love.

OK, since you’re already here, I might as well show you a few advertisements I’ve created for my “Creative Strategy For Advertising” subject. My group mates and I were given ‘Celebrity Fitness’ as our topic and were supposed to do some research about the company and come out with a new set of advertisements. Below are my creations :) I welcome comments too :)

And, according to my tutor, he commented that my ads are OK, but he really couldn’t understand the advertisement on boxing gloves. What do you think? Wuakkkaaa

Banana parallel bars

Cherry dumb bells

Lychee boxing gloves

Melon ball

He cannot understand just one pic? I can’t understand all of them? How fruits can be linked to those gym equipments? Abstact meanings? I failed…

Those are gorgeous pictures! I think what you are trying to convey is that we are able to see SPORTS in our everyday things… even in fruits…though I am not sure why those cherries look like dumbells though.

    I love the cherries!

Boxing gloves are normally in red and it wrap your fist while you’re using it - does that explain how boxing gloves can be represented by the lychee?

Wayne Liew: In order to answer your question, I am quoting my lecturer. “You need to think out of the box!” :) Heehee… If I use the Amber Chia in the ads, it will look like the existing ads and if they look like the existing ones, why do clients (in this case, my lecturer) needs to hire my agency (my team) to design new ads, right? Heehee :) Anyway, thanks for commenting because I need feedbacks to improve my skills too :)
Giddy Tiger: You’re absolutely right! Looks like you’re almost out of the box, but not entirely out yet because everyone seems to understand the cherry ad, but not you :) Wuakakakaa!

    Jie: Thanks. Nice, huh?

Seastar: Yeaps! You too, are already out of the box! Cool!! :D Thanks for commenting :)

The concept is very cool and the shots are nicely taken. Reminds me of the “Makan Bola, Minum Bola, Tidur Bola” advertisement. The tag line is a bit long, maybe you can try this: “Sports. You need it everyday.” :D

ColourfulWorld: HEY!! I actually started my presentation by saying “makan bola, minum bola, tidur bola” leh…

Hmmp! Looks like great minds think alike!! :)
    Cheers!

Well done! It is a nice concept overall. I like it. The visual on your ads are eye pleasing, but somehow reminded me of fruit fiesta posters.
Keep it up - thinking out of the box…

Just my 2 cents worth, 3 main things to consider when creating and developing a concept are the: Target Audience, Company’s Impression/ Representation, Tagline and Rationale.

It is all about customizing your ads to zoom in and engage your target audience while presenting and tying in with the company’s profile (ultimate fitness experience). Most importantly it needs a tagline that stands out (straightforward and clever), one that adds weight to your visual.
