I’m not sure if anybody noticed this, but I missed last week’s installment of Photo Hunt because I was in Melaka (remember I gave a talk at MGS?). Plus, J came to visit me over the weekend, all the way from Penang. Which means the amount of time I spent in front of the computer, blogging was cut down to less than half I’d normally spend *grins*

Anyway, back to this week’s theme:

I took this picture of our library-cum-IT-centre last year. It’s a very HUGE triple-storey building with a double-storey library on the upstairs and the IT centre downstairs (am I confusing you?).

Now, look at the number of steps we have to “climb” to get to the library! Makes good exercise, huh? :)

Here’s another one:

This was taken at the Sarawak Cultural Village when we visited Kuching last year. My knees went weak when I was taking this picture!

    where’s the stairway to heaven?

    pelf: Err..?
Addendum: You are soooo lucky. I found the stairway to heaven that you were looking for!! :)

I love your third picture! We went to the cultural village last year too - going up those kinds of log steps is no problem, but getting back down again is so scary. I love the ingenuity, though. What a smart idea to make your staircase out of a big log!

pelf: Yea, it’s smart, it’s cheap, and it’s practical. Hahha, but imagine us using logs as staircases in our homes! :)

Fuyohh.. academic lah.. i can count the number of times I went to the library during my undergrad years. :-) …. even thought there were no steps to climb to get there. LOL.

Longhouse steps!! Lovely! Can you imagine what lives underneath those steps (and under the houses)? Usually there’ll be a number of “janiks”, “asoks” and “manoks” rumaging for food.

pelf: Err.. What are janiks, asoks and manoks??! I’ve never heard of those words la :)

They are all very impressive photos; my favorite is the last one. I don’t blame your legs one bit!

pelf: Hhahaa.. There’s a word for it, the fear of heights, but I can’t seem to recall it now :)

I’d probably fall off de steps…

    pelf: Hold the railing!

    Janik=pig, asok=dog, manok=chicken :-)

    Fear of heights = batophobia

pelf: Thanks for the explanations! :) BTW, I just ran a check on Wiki and found that fear of heights is either “acrophobia” or “altophobia”. “Batophobia”, on the other hand, is the fear of depths.
