I got the idea to write about the Malaysian advertisements (or otherwise known as commercial breaks) from Zeroimpact who blogged about a touching ad by ASTRO. So I fired up YouTube and found some really good ads by Petronas that I think everybody should watch :)

Note: Click the PLAY button, then PAUSE it. Then click the PLAY button again after the whole video clip loads. Enjoy :)

(1) For the benefit of those NOT staying in Malaysia, this ad appeared on our TVs this year, in conjunction with Chinese New Year. The background music is entitled “Commitment”, sung by a well-known local singer, Victor Michael Wong (thanks, Eileen, for correcting me).

(2) The second ad was aired during Chinese New Year in 2006. The old ladies were bragging about their sons and how much they make, except for one. When the ladies were finished, they turned to ask one of their friends who didn’t seem to talk much during their meal. She humbly said that her son was doing well, and that he was coming to pick her up. Check out the green faces of the other ladies whose children were abroad making big bucks but didn’t come back to celebrate Chinese New Year with their mums.

(3) The third ad was aired during Hari Raya in 2006. D*mn touching, this one.. With English subtitles.

(4) This fourth ad was aired during Chinese New Year in 2005. It was the year of the Rooster, hence the chicken-shaped piggy-bank the grandson gave his grandma. It’s got English subtitles, so yea, I hope you enjoy it :)

Did the ads do anything to you?
