The World’s Greatest Shave is one of Australia’s biggest fund-raising events. In the last eight years, World’s Greatest Shave has raised in excess of $55 million. The Leukaemia Foundation holds the Guinness World Record for “the most heads shaved over a 24 hour period”, set between 12 pm on April 16, 1999 and 12 pm on April 17, 1999. And each year, around 100,000 people across the country (Australia) pledge to shave or colour their hair to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national (Australia) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. Your efforts will help the Foundation provide a free “home away from home” in one of the 16 accommodation centres located close to treatment facilities across Australia and by offering support services including accommodation, transport, educational programs and practical assistance to patients and families FREE OF CHARGE.
The money you raise also funds cutting-edge research into better treatments and cures through the National Research Program helping to improve survival rates for adults and children.
Did you know that:
- $55 pays for one car to transport patients to and from treatment centres for one day?
- $100 provides a family with a fully furnished “home away from home” near a treatment centre for one night?
- $250 provides a family with a tailored counseling and support program for three months?
So what can YOU do to help??

- If you live OUTSIDE Australia, you can either sponsor someone (my brother is shaving his head for the second time, why not sponsor him?) who is shaving or colouring OR make a general donation to the Leukaemia Foundation.
- Or you can show your support by purchasing a souvenir from the online shop.

Just when I was thinking of shaving my head again but wasn’t allowed to do so… This is so depressing. If only they have similar event in here, I would be the first to shave!

I’ve heard of Locks of Love where you cut your hair and donate it to cancer people who lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Shaving? This is something new to me. :D
