I remember I was introduced to listening to the radio when I was 16 (that was a decade ago). Yea, my antenna was THAT short back when I was still an innocent secondary-school girl *grins* A group of us girls were sitting in class one day and were chatting about music. Boy bands. Girl bands. The Top 10 charts. And because I was such a “late-boomer”, one of my best friends, Joey, recommended that I tuned in to Mix FM because according to her, Mix FM plays “contemporary but not hard rock music”.

I believed her, and so that was how I was hooked to the radio for the next 5 years or so. I took an interest on the Weekly Top 10 charts, who sang what, who released what albums and what-nots. The “obsession” kind of spread to my sister because she even bought some Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls albums!

Some of my favourite artists in the late 1990s include:

My, this is nostalgic! It feels like it was just a while ago that their songs topped the charts and I got to listen to them on the radio over and over again! Thank God for portable music players *smiles*

I remember back in those days, I bought a cassette titled HITS, featuring a mix of various artists like Vanilla Ice, Paula Abdul, Guys Next Door… LOL! Whenever we have extra class in school, we’d play those music at the “Taman Hijau” and it was such a blast!

Ahh.. those were the days. :)

pelf: Ouh, I didn’t buy HITS but bought a few volumes of “Now! That’s what I call music!”

It’s so interesting to think about the music we liked ten years ago… some of it I still like, some of it makes me cringe.

pelf: Hhahaha, same here.. And those that we like will probably stay with us for many more years :)

  5. Colleen says:

whispers: I still have a Backstreet Boys CD.

pelf: Hhahahha… And how do you find them now? Are they still as good? :)

  6. LaDonna says:

Except for Shania, I didn’t really listen to any of those artists. There are very few female singers that I really enjoy.

pelf: So we have something in common! :)

  7. Cecile says:

Some good choices. I love Natalie!

    pelf: Me too :)

  8. CyberCelt says:

I remember those bands. Natalie would be my favorite.

pelf: Mine too, sort of :)

I’m the oldster in the group – don’t know those artists except by reputation. But I know that those, your first musical favorites, will sing their songs to you throughout your life and always be the ones that take you back!

pelf: Yes, I agree :) Even till now, when I’ve already outgrown my fancy over Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls, I still find their songs charming :)
