Will this materialize?
Shopping mall to open in KT by mid year
KUALA TERENGGANU: The first shopping mall here is poised to begin operations by mid year, just a few months after the opening of a pioneer hypermarket in Terengganu last week.
The Paya Bunga mall situated at the heart of the town was supposed to commence operations a decade ago but hit a snag due to technical hitches and bureaucracy.
The state is hoping to lure a renowned mall management company to participate as an anchor tenant of the multi-storey complex where a cineplex is also expected make a debut after the Chinese New Year.
The mall located close to the main express bus complex and Government buildings will also allot space for a family amusement park.
With the opening, local folks who have been waiting to enjoy an extravagant shopping mall can shop here without travelling to Kuantan or Kota Baru.
There are four supermarkets in the heart of the town but none offer a mall concept.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the opening would quash the perception that Kuala Terengganu was a dull town.
“We have transformed Kuala Terengganu and the state as whole with more paradigm changes,” he told The Star here.
We shall wait and see..
Addendum:
The mall is already completed, as you can see, but the anchor tenant has yet to move in.

I told J about the “cineplex” and he said, with a straight face, “For all you know, we patrons are supposed to sit on plastic chairs, males and females separated and watch the movie with the lights switched on. Why waste money?”
Can’t blame him, can I?

I think the mall will turn out ok in the end… but it will cater mainly to the local market though, and won’t be like those malls in KL or Penang - that’s good enough, I think.
What I would really love, as much as it is an impossible pipe dream, is a library like the New York Library (never been there)… a library with enough books in the humanities and arts like literature, philosophy, history to keep me happy for the rest of my life.
pelf: Hey, I was thinking about the same thing! They should at least have a decent bookstore, at least an MPH.. But I’m not putting my hopes too high you know
THAT was EXACTLY what adam said when kristen and i told him about a possible cinema being opened. *LoL*
