I was going to blog about our fruitful trip to Setiu this morning but I need to rant a lil’. So Moz, the picture of the beautiful house by Penarik beach will come after this ![]()
So, J is interested to participate in a 2-month Summer Program on coral reefs which will be held at Okinawa Island this July. And the program organizers have enough fundings to sponsor 10 international students to join the program, which means that return air tickets as well as accommodation and program-related courses and dives will all be covered and the sponsored students will only need to pay for their own meals throughout the 2-month duration.
And since the application deadline is February 1st, he sent his application form, together with copies of his transcript and other relevant certificates to the program organizer on Jan 17th, via Registered Post. In fact, it was my idea that he sent his application forms via Registered Post so that he could track his mail.
BIG MISTAKE.
He tracked his mail today, after more than a week, to find that his mail “could not be found.” He called the post office in town but the person who answered his call insisted that there was no such mail. Then he called the Main Post Office in KL but he was told the same thing - there was no such mail with such tracking numbers. And when he refused to hang up, the person who answered his call said that he couldn’t help him because the “server had been down for a month”. Jesus. He was then asked to call KLIA, for reasons I have yet to ascertain, which he did though the lines were “forever engaged”.
I don’t know. I mean, we do not mind paying for certain services, like in this case the Registered Post, because ALL that we asked for was that the mail be delivered to the recipient. We thought we could rely on the system because “if anything goes wrong, we can always track our mails down”.
But now, nothing is certain anymore. You can pay for additional services for all you like, but our service providers will not give two rats about your documents and what-nots. Don’t even think of tracking your stuff down because the server had been down for a-freaking-month and nobody in the office gave two hoots about it.
Forget PosMalaysia. Thank God for scanners and emails.
If you think this post might benefit other bloggers:

Oh man! This so sucks! You should send this to the papers tho I bet they won’t print it
pelf: Yea, they’re most probably not printing it, that’s why I’m publishing it MY way
Next time, DHL or UPS it …
You pay a premium (over and above what you pay for registered mail), but you get compensated if it doesn’t get there and you can track status online as well.
Where we work, there is no question in our mind that Pos Malaysia just won’t cut it.
The government should do something about his. This private company will normally take over. Suck the life out of this and leave the Government to pick the bones up for burier. Pos Malaysia is not the only such bodies sadly. Who else will suffer but us citizen when the government irresponsibly sell us all out.
pelf: That is why I see private courier services is getting more popular - that’s because they’re more reliable!
