A lot of people have been complaining about the decline in the quality of PPS pings lately and, as much as I would like to deny it, the fact is that I am a part of the community, as Edrei so nicely puts it.

Being a part of the community means that complaining about the (bad) quality of recent PPS pings is akin to complaining about the (equally bad) quality of my OWN blog. It is akin to washing our dirty linens in public. Whatever.

I do not know how good PPS pings used to be before I knew what PPS was. Which means, I really am NOT in a position to say whether the quality of our blog posts are on the decline or otherwise, though I would assume that the majority is right about it ;)

So I guess the only thing that I can do on MY part is to cut down on the unnecessary pings, especially on those entries that nobody, except myself, would like to read. If you like to read pelf-ism is contagious, I know you would be back, regardless of whether I am pinging PPS or not, right? Right? Otherwise, my suggestion is to get Bloglines and subscribe to my feed *winks* <– This is NOT marketing, OK?! Muahhahah :)

  1. LoL, that’s what I did already. Only ping the posts that has “public interest”. Personally, I’m not too sure about the decline in quality…just that there has been an increase in the blogs no one wants to really read, and maybe that just makes the good blogs seem less.

And muahaha, thanks to Bloglines, it’s easier to stalk people without going to PPS all the time.

pelf: Yea, posts that are of public interest.. But when these “famous bloggers” blog about the decline in the quality of the pings and all, we the “nobody bloggers” feel that it’s targeted at us, no? I felt it though..

  2. mervkwok says:

oo.. I might be contributing to the bad ping problem. As for subscribing to your blog on bloglines, done! In fact, I never thanked you for telling me about bloglines. Now I’m hooked on adding new blogs every week x_X

pelf: It’s never too late to thank me, you know, with cards and flowers and a little gift that shines, or something to that effect.. *winks* Ouh, I forgot to warn that Bloglines could be addictive, but I have already passed that phase ;)

  3. Pelf, Merv, I consider you two to be QUALITY pings. But honestly, I think that the term “quality” is subjective, and depends on personal preferences. Everyone likes different stuff, depending on their personality. So don’t worry about it and keep pinging PPS.

I don’t think that ST’s post is targetted at you at all. I’d say it’s aimed at the lalala kind of posts, as well as the blgos that just ping unoriginal stuff to gain traffic.

pelf: Whether or not those comments were targeted at me, I still think exercising a bit of caution will go a long way ;) It wouldn’t harm me a bit to ping less if it could “raise the quality a bit”.. But then again, you are right, the term “quality” is really subjective..

  4. Sorry for flooding your comments section, haha. But those “famous bloggers” have been complaining about a lack of quality pings for several months already anyway. PPS kinda went downhill after The Star article…

pelf: Err.. I think I need to get hold of the article in The Star that you mentioned.. Anybody has one?

  5. ivan says:

i must admit that i’m one of them…sorry! hehe. but its true that nowadays people are just blogging coz its the IN thing which is not a good reason to start off with. but i guess there’s nothing much we can do. If its a fad, it’ll die off.

pelf: Because it’s the IN thing? It really is? I thought the Spirit of Melaka is the IN thing?! *winks*

  6. Wahlau, why everyone thinks they’re not quality bloggers?? Ivan, your blog nice also wad…

pelf: Muahahaha.. Sometimes bloggers also have what we call the inferiority complex ;)

  7. Emmanuel says:

The Star article?Well I think blogs whose writers/owners actually write stuff would pass as quality to me la rather than reposting jokes etc or some empty promo of some brand/item

pelf: Or maybe it should be made illegal to ping PPS for contents that are NOT original..

  8. ivan says:

char, i don’t think its that good. But i keep at it just to improve. So do bear with it :)
sorry pelf, not spamming here am i? hehe

pelf: Hhahaa, Spam Karma didn’t catch it, right? BTW, I don’t know what Spam Karma 2 does.. But I have it installed though.. Muahah..

  9. Laksa says:

hmm… i don’t believe in sweeping generalisations made by so-called big name bloggers, but here’s my opinion – i thought PPS is a public blogtal and there’s nothing mentioned in its policy about “quality” pings…

What’s a so-called “quality” ping anyway? Who’s to say what is interesting to some and what isn’t to others?

Nobody is compelled to read every single ping on PPS anyway – you just scroll for whatever interests you…

    That’s just my 2 cents.

pelf: Makes perfect sense to me *nods head* BTW, whatever happened to the meme I tagged you?!

  10. mervkwok says:

Maybe it’s time we non-famous bloggers branch out and start a an aggregator of our own haha. Just joking. I rarely check up PPS now a days. I’m hooked on SARAWho. Less blogs but good blogs.

pelf: erm.. I can do the cards bit but the rest would get lost in the mail hehe. And yes… BLOGLINES IS SOOO ADDICTIVE! GAH!

char: Woo.. I’m a quality ping? Yay!

pelf: I have heard of SARA but don’t exactly know its functions, looks like PPS to me though..
